South Sudan 2017-18 Third (ALUK AKECH #19) Jersey/Shirt

£29.99

This is an AMS Clothing South Sudan national team 2017-18 third jersey featuring the name & number of star striker Aluk Akech.

The South Sudan national team played their first international match in 2012 and despite having almost no footballing infrastructure as well as a squad comprised of mostly players from the domestic league, they have shown considerable promise. South Sudan’s breakthrough achievement was reaching the Quarter-Finals of the 2015 CECAFA Cup, where they defeated Djibouti and Malawi in addition to drawing twice against Sudan who later knocked them out on penalties. With their youth teams displaying immense potential as well as a large number of professional players from their diaspora that could be called upon, the future looks bright for South Sudan.

Aluk Akech was one of the first star footballers to emerge from South Sudan following their independence in 2011 and although his career has not reached the heights that some may have expected, he is widely seen as a pioneer in South Sudanese football that has played a key role in exposing the enormous talent that can be found throughout the country. Aluk is from Aweil, a town in the north of South Sudan that has a history of producing talented footballers, and began his club career with local sides Aweil Stars and Salaam Aweil, where his potential was quickly recognised. In 2014, he was signed by Juba-based side Malakia FC, the oldest and most successful club in South Sudan, where he continued to impress. He attracted the attention of some major clubs in the region and was a major drawcard in the early years of the domestic league in South Sudan, with Aluk eventually joining Sudanese Premier League club Al-Merreikh Kosti in 2015. From there he signed with Omdurman-based giants Al-Merreikh SC, who were one of the strongest clubs in the region at the time. From there, he had stints with a number of clubs in the Sudanese Premier League, including Al-Shorta Al-Qadarif and Al-Amal Atbara before returning to Malakia FC in 2023. At international level, Aluk made 18 appearances for the South Sudan national team from 2014-2021.
