Luxembourg 2017-18 Home (BARREIRO #16) Jersey/Shirt



This is an Adidas Luxembourg national team 2017-18 home jersey featuring the name and number of star midfielder Leandro Barreiro.

Luxembourg’s national team have a long history, having participated in every FIFA World Cup qualifiers since 1934 and every Euro Cup qualifier since 1964, however are yet to qualify or either competition. Despite their consistent participating in a range of competitions, Luxembourg’s only significant achievements have been competing in 6 Olympic football tournaments between 1920-1952. In the 1952 Olympics, they shocked Great Britain with a 5-3 win in the preliminary round before losing to Brazil 2-1 in the next round. Luxembourg’s only notable success was a massive 0-0 away draw to eventual champions France in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

Leandro Barreiro is one of the most talented young footballers to emerge from Luxembourg in the past decade. The 22-year-old has already established himself as a regular starter for both the national team and his club Mainz 05, who compete in Germany’s Bundesliga. Barreiro was born in Luxembourg to Angolan parents and made his debut for Luxembourg’s national team in 2018 at only 18 years of age.  He has since played 42 matches for Luxembourg and is set to be one of their keys players for many years to come.
