£34.99
This is a Benin national team 2019 home jersey featuring the name & number of star midfielder and captain Stéphane Sessègnon.
The Benin national team played their first international match in 1959, shortly before the formal independence of the country in 1960 and became a FIFA member in 1962. The team was previously nicknamed Les Écureuils (The Squirrels) before rebranding to Les Guépards (The Cheetahs) to reflect a more competitive identity. Benin has qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) five times — in 2004, 2008, 2010, 2019, and 2025. Their best performance came in the 2019 edition, when they reached the quarter-finals after eliminating Morocco in the Round of 16.
Stéphane Sessègnon is arguably Benin’s greatest player, with the 40-year-old veteran holding the national team’s all-time caps and goals record, having scored 24 goals in 89 international matches. He has had a prolific club career, playing in some of Europe’s major leagues- in France, England & Turkey. Sessègnon began his career with Créteil in France’s Ligue 2, where his strong performances led to him being signed by Ligue 1 club Le Mans, before moving to French giants Paris Saint-Germain. From there, he moved to England, having successful spells at Sunderland & West Bromwich Albion in the EPL. Sessègnon later returned to France to join Montpellier and later played for Turkish club Gençlerbirliği. After two years without playing club football, Sessègnon signed with Maltese Premier League club Sirens F.C. in mid-2022.
