Burundi 2019-20 Home (BIGIRIMANA #5) Jersey/Shirt

£29.99

This is a Garman Burundi national team 2019 home jersey featuring the name and number of star midfielder Gaël Bigirimana.

Until 2019, Burundi had never qualified for a major tournament, with their greatest achievements prior to this being qualifying for the 2014 African Nations Championship and finishing second at the 2004 CECAFA Cup. Their current squad however is one of the strongest in their history and includes players competing in some of Europe’s top leagues, including Bigirimana & Saido Berahino. The team made history in 2019 by qualifying for their maiden African Cup of Nations tournament, with a draw in the final qualification match against Gabon securing their place. Although they were competitive in every match, Burundi finished last in their group, however with a relatively young squad, hopes are high that they can continue their rise over the coming years.

Gaël Bigirimana is one of the leading players in the current Burundi national team squad and been integral in their recent success. Bigirimana was worn in Burundi and moved with his family as a refugee to the UK at the age of 10. He joined the youth team at Coventry City soon after arriving in the UK and eventually worked his way up to playing with their first team in 2011. After impressing for Coventry in the 2011-12 Championship season, he was signed by Premier League club Newcastle United in 2012. He played 13 matches for Newcastle in the 2012-13 season and is best remembered for his wonderstrike in a match against Wigan to mark his first (and only) Premier League goal. After struggling to break into the first team at Newcastle, he later re-signed for Coventry City and then moved to Scottish club Motherwell. After a brief spell at fellow Scottish side Hibernian and English National League club Solihull Moors he joined Northern Ireland's Glentoran F.C. in August 2020. After much expectation, he finally joined the Burundi national team in 2015, making his debut in a 2-2 draw against DR Congo, however as he had not received clearance from FIFA to play for Burundi, DR Congo were later awarded a 3-0 win by default. After eventually getting his FIFA clearance, he has gone onto play 17 international matches for Burundi, including every match of their AFCON 2019 campaign.
