Uzbekistan have established themselves as the most successful national team in Central Asia since their first international match as an independent nation in 1992. Although the ‘White Wolves’ have never qualified for a FIFA World Cup, they have qualified for every AFC Asian Cup since 1996, where they have progressed past the group stages in the past five tournaments. At youth level, they have qualified for the U-17 World Cup and U-20 World Cup in recent years, and with a number of young players coming through their ranks, there is a strong chance that an appearance at the World Cup in not far away for Uzbekistan. 

 

Abbosbek Fayzullaev is one of the star players in the emerging golden generation of Uzbek football and the 21-year-old has already made a huge impact at both club and international level. Fayzullaev began his professional career with Pakhtakor Tashkent, making his debut in May 2021. During his tenure, he contributed to the team’s success, securing three consecutive Uzbekistan Super League titles from 2021 to 2023 and clinching the Uzbekistan Super Cup in 2022. In August 2023, he transferred to CSKA Moscow, where he quickly made an impact by scoring his first goal for the club in September of the same year.  Internationally, Fayzullaev has been a standout performer for Uzbekistan. He played a pivotal role in the national youth teams, notably leading the U20 squad to victory in the 2023 AFC U-20 Asian Cup, where he was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. He made his senior national team debut in June 2023 and has since earned 25 caps, scoring 8 goals. His notable performances include scoring two goals during the 2023 AFC Asian Cup and participating in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
