San Marino 2016-17 Away (#10- SELVA) Jersey/Shirt
This is an Adidas San Marino national team 2016-17 away jersey featuring the number of legendary striker Andy Selva.
Andy Selva is arguably San Marino’s greatest-ever footballer and is one of the few Sammarinese players to compete professionally at club level. Selva has played all his club football in Italy’s lower leagues, with his most successful spell being at Sassuolo, where we scored 23 goals from 59 games and played a decisive role in their promotion to Serie B. At international level, he is San Marino’s all-time leading scorer and also the most-capped player in their history with 8 goals from 74 matches since debuting in 1998. He famously scored the goal that secured victory for San Marino in their memorable victory against Liechtenstein in 2004.
San Marino is a microstate that has maintained their sovereignty despite the small size and the fact that they are completely surrounded by Italy. With a population of just over 33,000 and a land size of only 61.2km², having a competitive national football team will always a challenge from San Marino, who however have been FIFA & UEFA members since 1988. In their history, San Marino have only recorded one victory- a 1-0 win at home against Liechtenstein, which was their first win in 65 matches. Despite struggling to record victories, San Marino have been relatively competitive against some of the worlds top teams and managed a breakthrough draw in 2014 in a 0-0 result against Estonia, ending a 61-match losing streak and securing the country’s first ever point in a European Championship qualifier.
