The club was originally founded in 1985 as Hazard United, initially competing in the lower leagues before being promoted to the top tier and winning their maiden league title in 1993. In 2003, the club relocated to Portmore and were renamed Portmore United, which has led to a great increase in fan support from the local community. Since their rebranding, Portmore have won 6 league titles as well as 2 CFU Club Championship titles- in 2005 & 2019.
Ricardo Morris has been one of the premier midfielders in Jamaican football over the past decade and has played a key role in the recent success of Portmore United. Morris began his senior club career with Portmore in 2011 and except for brief stints, he has remained at the club since then. In 2014, he signed with USL Championship club Tampa Bay Rowdies, but only played 7 matches before returning to Jamaica to join Montego Bay United. In 2015, Morris was reunited with Portmore United and apart from a short loan spell at Finnish club VPS in 2019, he has stayed with the club, leading them to consecutive league titles in the 2017-18 & 2018-19 seasons. At international level, Morris has been a regular member of the Jamaica national team squad since his debut in 2014. He has won 20 caps for Jamaica and represented his country in the 2017 & 2019 Gold Cups.
