This is an Adidas Maldives national team 2014 home jersey featuring the name and number of star striker Ali Ashfaq.
Maldives are usually considered one of Asia’s weaker teams and have never qualified for a major tournament, however they have achieved some noteworthy successes for a nation that has a population of only 430,000. Their best achievements at international level are winning the SAFF Championship title in 2008 & 2018, defeating their much larger rivals of India in the final on both occasions.
Ali Ashfaq is arguably Maldives’ greatest-ever footballer and was also considered one of the best players in the South Asian region when he was in the prime of his career. The 40-year-old has played for a number of different clubs throughout his illustrious career, spending the majority of his career in the Maldives Premier League as well as spells in Malaysia and Brunei. At international level, he is the all-time leading scorer for the national team with 58 goals from 98 matches from his debut in 2003 until his international retirement in 2023.
