This is an Adidas Liechtenstein national team 2016-17 home jersey featuring the name and number of star midfielder Nicolas Hasler.
With a population just under 39,000 and competing in the UEFA confederation against many of the worlds’ top teams, it is always going to be difficult for Liechtenstein to field a competitive squad, however throughout their history they have usually been able to achieve surprisingly solid results and have pulled off some massive upsets. Liechtenstein have competed in every World Cup qualifying campaign since 1998 and have won 2 matches, drawn 6 times and lost 52. Both of those victories were in their famous 2006 World Cup qualifying campaign, where they defeated Luxembourg twice and also drew 2-2 against Portugal, which surely the greatest achievement in the team’s history. Although Liechtenstein are still one of Europe's weakest teams, they have had some decent results in recent years, including a 2-0 win against Gibraltar in 2018, a 2-0 win against San Marino in 2020 as well as draws against both Greece and Armenia in the Euro 2020 qualifiers.
Nicolas Hasler is currently one of the leading players of Liechtensteiner football and has had a successful career at both club & international level. He is the son of Rainer Hasler, who is considered to be Liechtenstein's greatest-ever player. The 31-year-old has played all of his club football in the MLS and the Swiss Super League. He first established himself at FC Vaduz, a Liechtenstein-based club that compete in the Swiss Super League, before moving to the MLS to play with Toronto FC, Chicago Fire and Sporting Kansas City. In 2020, he returned to the Swiss Super League, signing with FC Thun. In 2022, joined former club FC Vaduz, now competing in the 2nd tier Swiss Challenge League. At international level, he has won 94 caps for Liechtenstein since making his debut in 2010.
