This is a Nike Hienghène Sport 2017-18 home jersey featuring the name and number of star striker Bertrand Kaï.
Hienghène Sport compete in the New Caledonia Super Ligue and are based in the commune of Hienghène, located in the North Province of New Caledonia. The club was founded in 1997 and were first promoted to New Caledonia’s top tier in 1999. In recent years, Hienghène Sport have established themselves as not only the premier club in New Caledonia but also one of the strongest in the Pacific region. They won the league title in 2017 & 2019 and also the Coupe de New Caledonia in 2013, 2015 & 2019. Hienghène Sport’s most notable achievement was their shock victory in the 2019 OFC Champions League, becoming the first team from New Caledonia to win the tournament. After pulling off a massive upset in the semi-final by defeating Team Wellington 2-0, they faced fellow New Caledonian rivals AS Magenta in the final, with a solitary goal by Antoine Roine securing a 1-0 victory. This earned the club qualification for the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup, where they caused a huge scare for Qatari giants Al-Sadd. Expected to win comfortably against Hienghène, Al-Sadd could only manage a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes, however scored twice in extra time to win 3-1.
Bertrand Kaï is a club legend at Hienghène Sport and also one of the most prominent New Caledonian footballers in the modern era. Born and raised in Hienghène, Kaï first played for Hienghène Sport’s senior team in 2007 and later joined league giants AS Magenta in 2013. He returned to Hienghène Sport in 2015 and has captained the team since then, playing a prominent role in their recent success. At international level, he has been New Caledonia’s leading striker for the past decade, holding the record for most goals and most caps for the national team. Kaï has scored a total of 23 goals in 41 international matches and remains an important member of the team at 37 years of age.
