This is a Macron Guam national team 2023-24 home jersey featuring the number of star striker and captain Jason Cunliffe.
Guam is one of FIFA’s smallest Member Associations in both population and size, however been remarkably competitive against their far larger opponents in the AFC region. A key element to their success in recent years has been the recruitment of a number of US-based players of Guamanian heritage into the national team, with around half of the ‘Matao’ squad often comprising of players competing at club level in the United States. Guam’s greatest achievements to date have been winning the Preliminary Competition of the East Asian Football Championship in 2010, 2013 & 2015, as well as advancing to the third round of Qualifiers for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, recording historic victories over India & Turkmenistan in the process.
Jason Cunliffe is a legendary figure in Guamanian football, having been a mainstay in the national team since his debut in 2006 as well as captain of the ‘Matao’ since 2012. Cunliffe was raised in Guam and spent his college years in the United States, where he played for the NCAA Division I men’s soccer team, the Santa Clara University Broncos from 2001-2004. In 2006, he returned to Guam and began his senior club career in the Guam Soccer League (GSL), where he has played for the majority of his career. Cunliffe has had spells at GSL clubs Quality Distributors (2006-2008), Guam Shipyard (2010-2012), Rovers FC (2013-2018) and Bank of Guam Strykers (2018 to current), with his only stint overseas being in 2012 when we signed with Filipino club Pachanga in the United Football League. Cunliffe is comfortably the all-time most-capped and top goalscorer in the history of the Guam national team, having scored 26 goals in 66 matches for the ‘Matao’, with the 40-year-old still being one of their leading players.
