This is a Tovio Burkina Faso national team 2024 home jersey featuring the name and number of star defender Edmond Tapsoba.

Burkina Faso have always had a relatively strong national team since their debut international match in 1960, however in recent years they have started to establish themselves as one of Africa’s best. In AFCON 2013, after having previously made it past the group stage of AFCON only once, finished runners-up, losing the final to Nigeria. In the 2017 edition, they once again impressed, finishing third after defeating powerhouses such as Ghana and Tunisia. After surprisingly failing to qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, Burkina Faso returned to the tournament in 2021 and were the surprise of the tournament, reaching the semi-finals after knocking out Tunisia and Gabon. Burkina Faso have never qualified for the World Cup, however with a number of young players competing in Europe’s top leagues they will be looking to build on their recent achievements.

Edmond Tapsoba is one of the leading players in the current Burkinabé squad and is emerging as an elite defender in world football as he continues to deliver on his enormous potential. Tapsoba was born in Ouagadougou, the capital city of Burkina Faso and began his senior career with local clubs Salitas and US Ouagadougou. In 2017, Tapsoba made the move to Europe and joined Portuguese 2nd tier club Leixões S.C, however failed to make an appearance for their first team and signed with the reserve team of fellow Portuguese club Vitória de Guimarães in 2018, who were then also competing in the 2nd tier. After a strong debut season at Vitória, he joined their first team in the Portuguese top flight the following season, where he scored 8 goals in 32 matches across all competitions, attracting the attention of clubs throughout Europe. In January 2020, he was signed by Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen for a fee of €18 million plus €7 million for objectives and he has since become one of the league’s top defenders, playing a key role in Bayer’s strong league performances. At international level, Tapsoba has won 44 caps for Burkina Faso since his debut in 2016 and was a key member of their squads in the 2021 and 2023 AFCON tournaments.
