This is a Macron Vanuatu national team 2022-23 home jersey featuring the number of star defender and captain Brian Kaltak.

Vanuatu is one of the few countries in the rugby-dominated Oceania region where football is the most popular sport and a focus on youth development in recent years has seen Vanuatu begin to establish themselves as one of the more developed teams in the OFC region. So far, the greatest achievement for Vanuatuan football was their qualification for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2017, the first time that Vanuatu has been represented at a major international tournament. They achieved this by finishing second in the 2016 OFC U-20 Championship, where they were defeated by New Zealand in the final. Another recent success for Vanuatu was winning 2017 Pacific Mini Games tournament, defeating regional powerhouses New Caledonia and Solomon Islands to secure the title.

Brian Kaltak is one of the greatest Vanuatuan footballers of the modern era, having had a prolific career at both club and international level. Kaltak began his career with the local Teouma Academy, the national youth program of the Vanuatu Football Federation. After showing immense promise, he joined New Zealand Central League club Waterside Karori in 2011 and later had stints with a number of clubs in the region, including PNG’s Hekari United, Solomon Islands’ Solomon Warriors, Vanuatuan clubs Amicale and Erakor Golden Star and New Zealand’s Tasman United. In 2018, he signed with current club Auckland City, the most successful club in the OFC region, and has become a key member of their squad. At international level, Kaltak has scored 5 goals in 28 matches of Vanuatu since debuting in 2011, with the 30-year-old recently being selected as captain of the national team.
