Al-Jazira compete in the UAE Pro League and are based in the UAE’s capital Abu Dhabi. The club were founded in 1974, however did not emerge as a force in UAE football until the late 2000s when they came under the ownership of Sheikh Mansour (also the owner of Manchester City). Al-Jazira are now one of the strongest clubs in the UAE and have won 3 league titles (in 2010-11, 2016-17 & 2020-21) as well as 3 UAE President’s Cups.
Ali Mabkhout has been one of the premier strikers in the UAE since debuting for Al-Jazira in 2008 and has played the entirety of his club football at Al-Jazira. He was the league’s top scorer in the 2016-17 season with 33 goals in 25 matches and also won the Golden Boot at the 2015 AFC Asian Cup. In the 2020-21 UAE Pro League season, Makbhout once against won the league's golden boot award, scoring 25 goals for the season as Al-Jazira won the league title. He has 109 caps for the UAE national team and is their all-time leading scorer with 81 goals.
