Young Africans (commonly known locally as Yanga) are one of the two biggest football clubs in Tanzania, their arch-rivals being Simba SC. The Dar es Salaam-based club have won 25 league titles since the national league was established in 1965, holding the record in front of Simba, who have won the league title 22 times. The two clubs compete against each other in the ‘Dar Derby’ played at the 60,000 capacity National Stadium, which is considered one of the greatest derbies in African football. Yanga have been the dominant club in Tanzania in recent years, winning the past three league titles and also performing strongly at continental level. In the 2022–23 CAF Confederation Cup, Yanga reached the Final, the best-ever result in the competition by a Tanzanian club, where they lost 2-2 on away goals to Algerian giants USM Alger.
