Al-Khartoum Al-Watani (also known as Khartoum National Club or Al-Khartoum SC) are based in the Khartoum 3 district of Sudan's capital city and compete in the Sudan Premier League. The club play their home matches at the historic Khartoum Stadium located near the city center and are one of the oldest clubs in Sudan, having been founded in 1950. With the league being dominated by Al-Hilal and Al-Merrikh, Al-Khartoum have not won a league title in their history, however became the 3rd strongest team in the league throughout the 2010s. During this period, the club was financially backed by local businessman Mamoun Bashir Elnefidi and were coached by James Kwesi Appiah from 2014-17. They qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup on 6 occasions in the 2010s and reached the semi-finals of the Kagame Cup in 2015.
Dominic Abui was Al-Khartoum’s most consistent performer during their golden era in the 2010s and the South Sudanese international played a key role in the rise of the club during his stint from 2014-20. At international level, he has 30 caps for the South Sudan national team and was most notably the first player to score for South Sudan in a FIFA World Cup qualifier when he secured a draw for the Bright Stars against Mauritania in 2015.
