Mozambique 2022-23 Away (#10- CATAMO) Jersey/Shirt
£34.99
This is a Lacatoni Mozambique national team 2022-23 away jersey featuring the number of star winger Geny Catamo.
Mozambique played their first international match on the day of their independence in 1975 and despite producing talented footballers, they have largely struggled to achieve any significant success in international football. The greatest footballer in Mozambique’s history was the legendary Eusébio, who was born and raised in Mozambique prior to their independence from Portugal and became one of the greatest players of his generation. Mozambique have never qualified for the FIFA World Cup, however they have competed in the Africa Cup of Nations on 5 occasions, although they have never made it past the group stage. They qualified for AFCON 2023, their first appearance at the tournament since 2010 and although they didn’t make it out of their group, they did perform well and managed to draw 2-2 against both Egypt and Ghana.
Geny Catamo is arguably the leading player in the current generation of Mozambican football, with the 23-year-old winger having played a key role in the recent improvement of the national team. Catamo played at youth level in with Maxaquene and later Black Bulls before moving to Portugal in 201 to join Campeonato de Portugal club Amora FC. His performances for Amora FC's junior and senior teams prompted Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon to recruit Catamo in 2019. Catamo was loaned out of fellow Primeira League clubs Vitória Guimarães for the 2021-22 season and Marítimo for the 2022-23 season before breaking into the Sporting Lisbon squad in the 2023-24 season, where he scored 3 goals in 26 matches as the club won the league title. At international level, Catamo has won 23 caps and scored 6 goals for Mozambique since making his debut in 2019 and played a key role for the national team in their AFCON 2023 campaign.
