This is an Adidas Mongolia national team 2014-15 home jersey featuring the number of star striker Murun Altankhuyag.
Mongolia have traditionally been one of the weaker teams in AFC region and have never qualified for a major tournament. With a national team squad usually comprised entirely of players from the Mongolian Premier League, victories have been rare, however they have become more competitive in recent years. They have largely performed strongly in their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, defeating Brunei 3-2 on aggregate in the qualifying round to reach the second round for the first time in their history. In the second round they recorded shock victories against Myanmar and Kyrgyzstan, however were on the end of a 14-0 thrashing to a star-studded Japan.
Murun Altankhuyag is a pioneer of Mongolian football and is the first-ever Mongolian to play professional football in a foreign league. Murun initially played for Mongolian Premier League clubs Selenge Press and Ulaanbaatar University from 2006–2008 and 2008–2009, respectively before moving to the United States, where he played college soccer from 2009-2012. In 2013, he signed a two-year contract with Krabi F.C. of the Thai Division 1 League and later joined Serbian 2nd tier club Mačva Šabac in 2015 on a one-year contract. Murun returned to Mongolia in 2016 and currently plays for local giants Ulaanbaatar City. At international level, Murun has scored 2 goals in 14 matches for Mongolia since debuting in 2007, however has not played for the national team since his most recent appearance in 2016.
