Mali have consistently achieved strong results in the Africa Cup of Nations over the past few decades, however are yet to qualify for the World Cup despite producing an abundance of talented players, which include Seydou Keïta, Frédéric Kanouté and Mahamadou Diarra. To date, their greatest achievements have been a runners-up finish at the Africa Cup of Nations in 1972, and third place finishes in 2012 & 2013.
