Luxembourg’s national team have a long history, having participated in every FIFA World Cup qualifiers since 1934 and every Euro Cup qualifier since 1964, however are yet to qualify or either competition. Despite their consistent participating in a range of competitions, Luxembourg’s only significant achievements have been competing in 6 Olympic football tournaments between 1920-1952. In the 1952 Olympics, they shocked Great Britain with a 5-3 win in the preliminary round before losing to Brazil 2-1 in the next round. After decades of struggling to compete against their larger Europeans rivals mostly due to a limited talent pool, Luxembourg pulled off a massive 0-0 away draw to eventual champions France in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers. In 2023, Luxembourg achieved some of their best results in European Championship qualifying, finishing third in their group (of six teams) and qualifying for a play-off for a finals berth, but they lost 2–0 to Georgia.
