Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya (commonly referred to as ‘Air Force Club’) compete in the Iraqi Premier League and are based in the Al-Rusafa district of Baghdad. The club was founded in 1931, making them the oldest existing football club in Iraq and they are also one of Iraq’s most successful clubs, having won the league title 7 times. They are nicknamed ‘Al-Soqoor’ (The Falcons) by their large fanbase and are under the administration of Iraq’s Ministry of Defence. In recent years, Jawiya have achieved most of their success at continental level, winning the AFC Cup three times in a row from 2016-2018. During this period, they also won the 2016-17 Iraqi Premier League title, breaking a 12-year drought.
Aymen Hussein is one of the leading strikers in Iraqi domestic football and has played for a number of clubs in Iraq since beginning his senior career with Al-Alam SC in his hometown of Kirkuk in 2010. After spells with several Iraqi clubs, breakthrough season came in 2016-17 with Al-Naft, where the team finished second as Hussein was Al-Naft’s top scorer. In 2018, Hussein was signed by Tunisian giants CS Sfaxien, however after one season he returned to Iraq and joined Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya in 2019. At international level, Hussein has played 42 matches and scored 6 goals for Iraq since his debut for the national team in 2015.
