Iran 1978 Home (#7- ALI PARVIN) Jersey/Shirt
£34.99
This is an Adidas Iran national team home jersey as worn by the team at the 1978 FIFA World Cup.
Ali Parvin was one of Iran’s most influential footballers, captaining Persepolis F.C. and the Iran national team during the 1970s. He captained Iran at the 1978 FIFA World Cup and later became a highly successful coach, leading Persepolis to multiple league titles and establishing himself as a legendary figure in Iranian football history.
Iran made its first FIFA World Cup appearance at the 1978 tournament in Argentina, finishing with one draw and two losses, including a historic 1–1 draw with Scotland that produced Iran’s first World Cup goal. Politically, the team competed during the final year of rule by The Shah, when Iran was experiencing numerous issues that would soon lead to the 1979 Iranian Revolution.
Iran has consistently been of the top national teams in Asia and has been the highest-ranked team in Asia for the majority of the past decade. They are regular World Cup participants, having qualified 7 times including the past 4 editions and have won the AFC Asian Cup three times- in 1968, 1972 & 1976. In recent years they have continued their regional dominance, however have been unable to add to their Asian Cup tally despite making it to at least the Quarter-Finals in almost every edition of the tournament. With a number of players competing in some of Europe’s top leagues as well as having a relatively strong domestic league, it is expected that Iran will remain as one of Asia’s powerhouses in the coming years.
