Indonesia 2008-10 Home (BAMBANG #20) Jersey/Shirt

£39.99

This is a Nike Indonesia national team 2008-10 home jersey featuring the name and number of legendary striker Bambang Pamungkas.

Indonesia has long been one of Southeast Asia’s most passionately supported national sides, often playing most home matches to sell-out crowds of over 70,000 at Jakarta’s Gelora Bung Karno Stadium. Indonesia was the first team from Asia to participate in the FIFA World Cup, with the predecessor of the team (prior to independence in 1945), the Dutch East Indies, participating in the 1938 edition, where they were eliminated in the first round. Indonesia qualified for the AFC Asian Cup on five occasions, and advanced to the knockout stage for the first time in the 2023 tournament, exiting in the round of 16. Despite the massive popularity of football in Indonesia as well as a well-supported domestic league, the poor state of football administration in the country has largely prevented Indonesia from fulfilling their huge potential, however this appears to have greatly improved in recent years. Led by PSSI chairman and influential businessman Erick Thohir, the level of investment into football has increased and a program to target members of the Indonesian diaspora overseas has seen a rapid rise in the strength of the national team. With a squad now comprised of players from both the domestic league and some of the top leagues in Europe, the national team has suddenly become arguably the strongest in Southeast Asia and were the only team from the region to progress to the final round of 2026 World Cup qualification, where they narrowly missed out on reaching the tournament.

Bambang Pamungkas is widely regarded as one of Indonesia’s greatest footballers, enjoying a prolific career as a striker for both club and country. He spent the majority of his domestic career with Persija Jakarta, becoming the club’s all-time leading scorer and a symbolic figure for its supporters, while also winning league titles during Indonesia’s transitional league era. Abroad, he had a successful spell with Selangor FA in Malaysia, helping the club secure domestic honours including the Malaysia Premier League and Malaysia Cup. Internationally, Pamungkas earned more than 80 caps for the Indonesia national football team, scoring over 35 goals and captaining the side, notably playing in multiple ASEAN Championship campaigns where Indonesia finished runners-up. Renowned for his intelligent movement, composure in front of goal, and leadership qualities, he retired in 2019 as one of the most iconic figures in Indonesian football history.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A RECENT REPRODUCTION OF THE ORIGINAL 2008 JERSEY BASED ON A SIMILAR TEAMWEAR DESIGN, HOWEVER IT IS A 100% AUTHENTIC NIKE JERSEY.
