Prior to this, they had never qualified for a major tournament, however defied all expectations to reach the quarter-finals of AFCON 2021, defeating continental heavyweights Tunisia and Guinea in the process. With their current squad featuring a host of young players competing in Europe, it is expected that results will continue to improve over the coming years.
