This is a Joma FC Guantánamo 2021-22 home jersey featuring the number of star midfielder Yunior Pérez.
FC Guantánamo are based in the city of Guantánamo located in southeast Cuba and compete in the Campeonato Nacional de Fútbol de Cuba, the top tier of football in Cuba. The club is nicknamed ‘Los Titanes del Guaso’ (The Titans of Guaso), a reference to the Guaso River, which runs through Guantánamo city. Although the club is yet to win a league title, they have been a consistently strong performer in the domestic league, finishing as runners-up in the 2010/11 and 2016 seasons.
Yunior Pérez is the most prolific footballer to come through FC Guantánamo in the modern era, with the 22-year-old left midfielder first making his senior debut for the club in 2019. Pérez was born in the port town of Caimanera, the main port in Guantánamo Province and spent 4 seasons with FC Guantánamo from 2019-2022 before moving abroad to sign with Guatemalan club F.C. Santa Lucía. After one season, he joined fellow Guatemalan top tier club Deportivo Achuapa. Pérez has become a regular member of the Cuba national team squad since making his international debut in 2021. He has since played a total of 20 matches for Cuba, including all 3 of their matches at the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
