East Turkistan Prototype Jersey/Shirt

£29.99

This is an AMS Clothing prototype jersey designed for the national football team of East Turkistan.

East Turkistan (also spelled East Turkestan) is a geographical and historical region is Central Asia. The territory is claimed and governed by the People's Republic of China (PRC), who refer to the territory as the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China. East Turkistan has been a disputed territory for many centuries and operated as an independent state of two occasions in the 20th century.  The neighbouring Chinese province annexed part of the territory as a result of the Chinese communist invasion of 1949 The Uyghurs, a Turkic ethnic group who are mostly Muslim, make up at least 11 million of the 22 million population. A growing number of Han Chinese have been incentivised by the PRC government to move to the region in recent decades, which is largely viewed as a tactic to suppress the presence of Uyghurs in their historical land. A movement for the independence of East Turkistan has persisted, with the PRC government forcefully cracking down on any form of separatism, with their increasingly severe actions in the province in recent years often being characterized as genocide.

Despite the challenges, the region has managed to produce a number of talented young footballers in recent years, most notably Mirahmetjan ‘Metjan’ Muzepper- the first Uyghur player to represent China’s senior national team, as well as Dilmurat Mawlanyaz, Abduhamit Abdugheni and a number of others competing in the Chinese Super League. Russian international Ilzat Akhmetov and Uzbekistan international Khojiakbar Alijonov are also among the long list of Uyghur professional footballers playing throughout the world. East Turkistan has a national football team that is affiliated with ConIFA and made their international debut in 2019 with an 8-2 victory against West Papua.
