D.R. Congo 2023-24 Home (WISSA #20) Jersey/Shirt

£29.99

This is an Umbro Democratic Republic of the Congo national team 2023-24 home jersey featuring the name and number of star forward Yoane Wissa.

DR Congo’s national team have a rich history of success and they have mostly been one of Africa’s stronger teams since their first international match in 1948. The appearance of Zaire (the name of DR Congo between 1971-1997) in the 1974 World Cup marked the first time that a sub-Saharan African team competed at the tournament and Zaire (now DR Congo) has not qualified for the World Cup since then. At the tournament Zaire failed to score any goals and suffered a 9-0 defeat to Yugoslavia, however gave credible performances against Scotland and Brazil. They have won the Africa Cup of Nations twice- in 1968 & 1974 and regularly perform well at the tournament, with their best recent results being a third-place finish in the 2015 edition and a fourth-place finish in the 2023 edition. Although they have been unable to replicate the success of their golden era in the late 1960s and 1970s, DR Congo have a promising young squad and will be looking to make a return to the World Cup in the near future.

Yoane Wissa is one of the highest-profile players in the current DR Congo squad and has played a key role in the recent improvement of the team since making his national team debut in 2020. Wissa was born in France to Congolese parents and came up through the youth ranks of Championnat National (third tier) club Châteauroux, eventually becoming part of their first team squad in the 2015-16 season. After a challenging period playing for various clubs on loan, Wissa made his breakthrough at Ligue 2 club Lorient, where he spent 4 seasons and helped the club gain promotion to Ligue 1 for the 2020-21 season. He impressed in his first season in the top tier of French football and was signed by newly-promoted EPL club Brentford in August 2021. He has since developed into an important member of the Brentford squad, becoming a regular goalscorer and being deployed in a number of different roles. At international level, Wissa has won 25 caps for DR Congo and scored 5 goals, with his strong performances in the 2023 AFCON earning him a place in the Team of the Tournament.
