AS Vita Club compete in the Linafoot, the top tier of football in DR Congo and are based in the capital city of Kinshasa. The club, nicknamed Les Dauphins Noirs (The Black Dolphins), are the second most successful club in the Democratic Republic of Congo behind arch-rivals TP Mazembe. AS Vita were founded in 1935 and have competed in the top flight of Congolese football since the league was established in 1958. They have won a total of 15 league titles in their history and have been able to counter of dominance of TP Mazembe in recent years, with title victories in the 2015, 2018 & 2021 league seasons. AS Vita have also achieved success at continental level in the CAF Champions League, having won the title in 1973, as well as finishing runners-up in the 1981 & 2014 tournaments.
Glody Makabi Lilepo emerged at one of the most exciting young players in the Linafoot in recent seasons, with the 25-year-old impressing in his stints with both FC Renaissance and AS Vita Club. Lilepo came up though the youth ranks of AS Vita, however was initially unable to break into the first team and made his senior club debut when he was sent on loan to Eswatini giants Mbabane Swallows for the 2018-19 season. The following season he returned to the Linafoot and signed with Kinshasa-based club FC Renaissance du Congo, where he performed strongly as his club finished in 6th place despite being temporarily suspended from the league due to fan violence. Lilepo’s strong form saw him attract interest from several clubs and he would return to his former side AS Vita Club for the 2020-21 season. He played a key role in AS Vita’s title-winning season in 2020-21 and also performed well throughout their CAF Champions League campaign. This led to a call-up for the DR Congo national team squad for the 2020 African Nations Championship, where he played every match and scored in their 2-1 loss against hosts Cameroon in the Quarter-Finals. In August 2022, Lilepo joined Sudanese giants Al-Hilal and has made an instant impact, scoring the crucial goal in their 2022-23 CAF Champions League first-round match against St. George of Ethiopia that saw them advance to the next round.
