Suriname 2024 Home (#11- BECKER) Jersey/Shirt

£34.99

This is a Macron Suriname national team 2024 home jersey featuring the number of star striker Sheraldo Becker.

Suriname traditionally has a strong football culture, with many of the best players to play for the Netherlands having Surinamese decent, including Patrick Kluivert, Frank Rijkaard, Ruud Gullit, Clarence Seedorf & Virgil Van Dijk to name a few. Until recently, Suriname has discouraged dual citizenship and Surinamese Dutch players who have picked up a Netherlands passport had been barred from selection to the national team until reforms finalised in 2019. As a result, the national team squad has been transformed from almost entirely of players based in the relatively weak domestic league of Suriname, the SVB Topklasse to a squad largely featuring players competing in top leagues throughout Europe. This had led to Suriname qualifying for the Gold Cup in 2021, their first appearance at the tournament since 1985, with the team also securing qualification for the 2025 Gold Cup. To date, the greatest achievement by Suriname has been winning the Caribbean Cup in 1978, however their vastly improved squad, there is a strong platform for the team to be one of the strongest in the Caribbean region.

Sheraldo Becker is one of the most prominent players from the Surinamese diaspora in the Netherlands to have committed to representing Suriname at international level since the dual-citizenship reforms of 2019. The 29-year-old striker was born in Amsterdam to Surinamese parents and represented the Netherlands various youth levels before eventually making his senior debut with Suriname in 2021. Becker began his club career with Dutch giants Ajax, having joined their youth academy at 9 years of age. He eventually worked his way up to their senior squad in 2013, however had limited opportunities and spent two seasons with their reserves team Jong Ajax. Becker then had stints with Eredivisie clubs PEC Zwolle and ADO Den Haag before signing with Bundesliga club Union Berlin in 2019. After a breakout season in 2022-23, Becker joined La Liga club Real Sociedad in January 2024 for a transfer fee reported to be around €3 million. At international level, Becker has scored 5 goals in 16 matches for Suriname and will form a key part of their squad for years to come.
