The Balearic Islands are a Spanish archipelago in the Balearic Sea, near the eastern coast of the Iberian Peninsula. Its four largest islands are Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera, with the region having a combined total population of around 1,215,000. The islands' most prominent football club is RCD Mallorca from Palma, currently playing in the top-tier La Liga in 2021. Founded in 1916, it is the oldest club in the islands, and won its only Copa del Rey title in 2003. The Balearic Islands regional team represents the territory in competitions against other regions of Spain as well as various friendly matches over the years. Miguel Ángel Nadal is arguably the most famous footballer to emerge from the Balearic Islands and had a successful career with RCD Mallorca, Barcelona and the Spain national team. He is also the uncle of fellow Balearic Islander and tennis legend Rafael Nadal.
