Al-Muharraq Sports Club compete in the Bahraini Premier League and are based in Muharraq, Bahrain’s third-largest city. The club was founded in 1928 and is one of the oldest sports clubs in the Arabian Peninsula region. They are the most successful club in Bahraini football history, having won the league title a record 34 times and also the King’s Cup a record 33 times. At regional level Muharraq he also achieved success, winning the 2008 AFC Cup as well as the 2012 GCC Champions League title.
Ismail ‘Som3a’ Abdullatif is one of the greatest Bahraini footballers of the modern era and the 34-year-old veteran has had a highly successful career. He is the all-time leading goalscorer for the Bahrain national team, having scored 42 goals in 119 matches since his international debut in 2005. Abdullatif has played the majority of his club football in Bahrain with Hala SC, Riffa SC and current club Al-Muharraq. He has also had stints in Kuwait with Al-Arabi and Al-Salmiya, in Oman with Al-Nasr, in Qatar with Al-Ahli Doha as well as with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nahda.
