This is a Jako Yemen national team 2023-24 home jersey featuring the number of star midfielder Ahmed Al-Sarori.
Yemen have traditionally been one of the weaker teams in the Middle East, having only made it through the group stage of the Arabian Gulf Cup once and never qualifying for a major tournament, that is until their breakthrough qualification for the 2019 Asian Cup. Despite experiencing an intense civil war and unable to host home matches, Yemen defied the odds by reaching their maiden Asian Cup by finishing 2nd in their qualifying group ahead of Tajikistan and Nepal. With a squad comprised mostly of players from their domestic league as well as some playing in Qatar & Oman, ‘The Red Devils’ failed to make it past the group stages of the 2019 Asian Cup, losing all three matches. Despite this, the team will be hoping to build on this achievement and with a number of promising young players, Yemen will look to continue to provide some joy for their war-torn country.
Al-Sarori is considered to be one of the most talented players in Yemen’s football history and hopes are high that he will lead Yemen to unprecedented international success in years to come. The 25-year-old made his debut for Yemen in 2015 aged just 17 and has since scored 2 goals in 48 matches for his nation. At club level, Al-Sarori began his career with local giants Al-Ahli Sana’a before making a surprise move to Brazil joining Serie D club Central PE for one season in order to further his experience. He then went on to sign for Qatari club Al-Markhiya in 2019, which was followed by stints with Czech 2. Liga club FC MAS Táborsko and Omani giants Al-Suwaiq. In late 2020 he joined Moroccan club SCC Mohammédia and in 2022 he signed with current club Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, one of the most successful teams in Iraq. Al-Sarori impressed for Yemen in their 2019 AFC Asian Cup appearance and is set to be a key member of their team for many years to come.
