This is a Jako Oman national team 2022-23 away jersey featuring the name and number of star midfielder Salaah Al-Yahyaei.
Oman’s national team played their first international match in 1965, however it was until the 1990s that the team began to show signs of improvement after many years of being one of the weakest teams in the region. Oman have qualified for the AFC Asian Cup on 4 occasions and have appeared at 4 of the past 5 tournaments. They failed to progress beyond the group stages at their first 3 appearances in 2004, 2007 & 2015, however at the 2019 Asian Cup they made it to the Round of 16 after defeating Turkmenistan 3-1 in their final group stage match. Oman’s greatest achievements have been their 2 Arabian Gulf Cup titles- when they hosted the tournament in 2009 and also in 2017. In the 2017 edition they defeated Asian heavyweights Saudi Arabia in the group stages and then UAE in the final to truly mark their emergence as a force in the region.
Salaah Al-Yahyaei has emerged as one of Oman’s leading footballers in recent years, with the 24-year-old being a regular starter for the national team since his debut in 2016. Salaah began his senior club career with hometown club Seeb in 2015 and went onto have stints with Omani giants Fanja and Dhofar, the two most successful clubs in Oman. He returned to Seeb in 2020 and played a key role in their drought-breaking back-to-back league titles in 2019-20 & 2021-22. After attracting the attention of several major clubs in the region, Salaah signed with Qatar SC in the Qatar Stars League in January 2022, where he played for one season before returning to Seeb in late 2022 due to the break in the Qatari league due to the FIFA World Cup. He played an influential role for Seeb in their 2022 AFC Cup Final victory against Kuala Lumpur City, with their 3-0 win marking the first time an Omani club has won an AFC tournament. At international level, Salaah has scored 7 goals in 42 matches for Oman, with his most memorable goal coming in the 10th minute of stoppage time in the 2023 Gulf Cup Final against host Iraq, which levelled the scores at 1-1.
