Xavi is widely regarded to be one of the greatest central midfielders of all time and has had an incredibly success career at both club and international level. Xavi is best remembered for being a key member of the Barcelona and Spain squads that dominated world football in the 2000s. Apart from his 4 season spell at Al-Sadd at the end of his career, Xavi played his entire club football with Barcelona and he holds the club record for most appearances, playing in an incredible 767 matches in all competitions for the club. He also won the World Cup with Spain in 2010 as well as the European Championship in 2008 & 2012. In 2015 Xavi made the move to Al-Sadd, where he has played a key role in the club’s consolidation as one of Asia’s strongest clubs.
Al-Sadd are based in the Al-Sadd district of the city of Doha and compete in the Qatar Stars League. They are the most successful club in Qatari football history, having won the league title a record total of 14 times as well as the Emir Cup a record total of 16 times. They have also won the AFC Champions League twice- in 1988-89 & 2011 and have produced some of Qatar’s greatest footballers. In addition, Al-Sadd have attracted many high-profile foreign players to the club over the years, including Raúl, Ali Daei and Younis Mahmoud.
