Gambia 2023 Home (#5- COLLEY) Jersey/Shirt

£34.99

This is a Sport-Saller The Gambia national team 2023 home jersey featuring the number of star defender and captain Omar Colley.

Due to their small size and population of only 2 million, The Gambia had rarely achieved much international success, until their breakthrough Africa Cup of Nations qualification in 2021. Prior to this, they had never qualified for a major tournament, however defied all expectations to reach the quarter-finals of AFCON 2021, defeating continental heavyweights Tunisia and Guinea in the process. With their current squad featuring a host of young players competing in Europe, it is expected that results will continue to improve over the coming years.

Omar Colley is arguably one the greatest Gambia footballers of all-time, with the 31-year-old defender having had a prolific career at both club and international level. He began his senior club career in 2010 with Gambian giants Wallidan FC before joining local rivals Real de Banjul in the following season. His performances in the Gambian First Division, as well as with the Gambia U-17 national team that won the 2009 African U-17 Championship caught the attention of several overseas clubs and eventually Colley signed with Finnish giants KuPS in 2013. He quickly adapted to the level of football in Europe and was signed by Swedish club Djurgårdens IF in 2015. Colley then joined Belgian club KRC Genk in 2016 for a transfer fee of €2 million and after two strong seasons for the club, Colley signed with Serie A club Sampdoria in 2018. He remained at Sampdoria for 4 ½ seasons before being signed by Turkish giants Beşiktaş in February 2023. At international level, Colley has played a major role in the rise of the national team and has won 48 caps for Gambia since his debut in 2012, making him the all-time most capped player for his nation.
