This is a Tovio Burkina Faso national team 2024 home jersey featuring the name and number of star forward and captain Bertrand Traoré.
Burkina Faso have always had a relatively strong national team since their debut international match in 1960, however in recent years they have started to establish themselves as one of Africa’s best. In AFCON 2013, after having previously made it past the group stage of AFCON only once, finished runners-up, losing the final to Nigeria. In the 2017 edition, they once again impressed, finishing third after defeating powerhouses such as Ghana and Tunisia. After surprisingly failing to qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, Burkina Faso returned to the tournament in 2021 and were the surprise of the tournament, reaching the semi-finals after knocking out Tunisia and Gabon. Burkina Faso have never qualified for the World Cup, however with a number of young players competing in Europe’s top leagues they will be looking to build on their recent achievements.
Despite being 28 years old, Bertrand Traoré is already one of the all-time greats of Burkinabé football. He made his full international debut aged just 15 and already has played 78 matches for Les Étalons, scoring 20 goals. He is currently the captain of the national team and has played a key role in their recent success. Traoré began his senior club career with English Premier League giants Chelsea in 2014 after previously being signed to their youth academy. He only managed to play 10 EPL matches for Chelsea, being loaned out to Eredivise clubs Vitesse and Ajax during his time at the club. In 2017 he signed with Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais and was impressive over 3 seasons at the club, scoring a total of 21 goals in 87 league matches. In September 2020, Traoré returned to the Premier League and signed with Aston Villa for a fee of £17 million. He performed strongly in his first season at Aston Villa, scoring 7 goals in 36 league matches, however has since joined Turkish club İstanbul Başakşehir on loan for the 2022-23 season after limited game time in the Premier League. In February 2024, Traoré joined La Liga club Villareal on a free transfer.
