ASEC Mimosas are based in Abidjan, the largest city in Côte d'Ivoire and compete in the Côte d'Ivoire Ligue 1. They are the most successful club in the country, having won the league title 29 times, including the past 3 consecutive titles, in addition to 22 Côte d'Ivoire Cup victories and also 1 CAF Champions League title in 1998. The club were founded in 1948 and were one of the founding clubs in the national division that was formed once the country became independent in 1960. Over the following decades, they competed with arch-rivals Africa Sports for the title as the top club in Côte d'Ivoire. In the 1990s ASEC Mimosas had their golden era, with their squad forming the backbone of the Ivorian national team that won the 1992 AFCON title. The club won their only continental trophy during this period, when they defeated Zimbabwe’s Dynamos 4-2 on aggregate I n the 1998 CAF Champions League final. Most notably, during this era the ASEC Mimosas academy produced some of the greatest players in the history of Ivorian football, many of which became elite players at European clubs, such as Kolo Touré, Yaya Touré, Emmanuel Eboué, Gervinho and Didier Zokora.
