Eugene Mukangula is one of many top footballers in Kenya to have started his career at Thika United. Having been raised in the town of Thika, Mukangula joined his hometown club at a young age and quickly established himself in the first team after his debut in 2015. He had a breakout year in the 2017 Kenyan Premier League season, scoring 5 goals and playing a crucial role in the club avoiding relegation. His strong form has led him to be signed by Kenyan powerhouse AFC Leopards and he has already become an important member of their squad. The 23-year-old will be looking to continue this growth and will surely attract a call up to the Kenya national team in the near future.

Thika United are based in the industrial town of Thika, which is located northeast of the capital Nairobi. They currently compete in the Kenyan Super League, the second tier of football in Kenya, however have spent much of their existence in the Kenyan Premier League since they were first promoted to the top tier in 2002. The club were formed in 2000 as Beirut FC and are widely known for breeding young players and turning them into local football stars. The club has produced young talent such as Kenyan internationals Francis Kahata and Michael Olunga as well as contributing names such as David Okello, Dennis Odhiambo and former coach Nicholas Muyoti among others to the national team.
