Qatar SC are based in Doha and compete in the Qatar Stars League, the top tier of football in Qatar. They are one of the country’s oldest and most successful clubs, having won the league title a total of 8 times since they were founded in 1959, the equal 2^nd highest in Qatari domestic football. Six of those league titles were won in the club’s glory years between 1966-1973, and since then they have largely struggled to maintain this success, with their most recent title being in the 2002-03 season. Qatar SC were relegated to the 2^nd tier for the first time in their history following a 13^th place finish in the 2015-16 season, however immediately returned to the QSL after a runners-up finish in the 2016-17 season. They have since been a mostly mid-table club in recent years and have signed a number of high-profile foreign players during this time, most notably Samuel Eto’o, Javi Martínez & Youcef Belaïli.

Javi Martínez has had a decorated career at both club and international level, with the 34-year-old having been involved in a remarkable number of title-winning squads throughout his time at the highest level of world football. Athletic Bilbao signed him as a raw 17-year-old for €6 million in the summer of 2006, from fellow La Liga club CA Osasuna, despite him never having played a game with the first team. He went on to become one of the leading players for the club over his 6 seasons at Bilbao, attracting the interest of several of Europe’s top clubs, with Martínez eventually signing with Bayern Munich in 2012 for a €40 million fee. Incredibly, over his 9 seasons with Bayern, the club won the Bundesliga title in every single season in addition to UEFA Champions League titles in the 2012-13 & 2019-20 seasons. At international level, Martínez won 18 caps for Spain from 2010-2014 and was a member of the Spanish squad that won the 2010 FIFA World Cup as well as Euro 2012.
