This is an Adidas Faroe Islands national team 2016-17 home jersey featuring the name and number of star striker Jóan Símun Edmundsson.

The Faroe Islands are an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark and are located about halfway between Norway and Iceland. It comprises of 18 major islands with a total population of 52,000 and is one of the few FIFA members that is not recognized as a sovereign state. They joined FIFA in 1988 and UEFA in 1990, with the team achieving fairly strong results throughout their history considering tiny population of the archipelago. They are currently ranked 125 in the FIFA rankings and achieved an all-time high of 74 in 2015 & 2016. In the qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the Faroe Islands achieved some of their best results, which included victories against Latvia & Andorra as well as a draw against Hungary.

Jóan Símun Edmundsson is one of the leading players in the current Faroe Islands national team squad and he has been an integral part of the team since his international debut in 2009 aged only 18 years old. Edmundsson began his club career at local side B68 Toftir before signing with English Premier League giants Newcastle United in 2010 after impressing on trial. His opportunities at Newcastle were limited and he left in 2012, from which he had spells at several clubs in Norway, Denmark and the Faroe Islands. He finally started to fulfill his potential at Danish Superliga side Odense Boldklub, where he had a successful three-season spell until 2018, when he signed with Arminia Bielefeld, who compete in Germany’s 2. Bundesliga. He remained at Bielefeld until 2021 and moved to Belgian club S.K. Beveren. At international level, he has played 75 matches and scored 7 goals, making him the Faroe Islands 3rd most-capped player and 5th highest all-time goalscorer.
