Ethiopia 2019 Away (#9-KEBEDE) Jersey/Shirt

This is an Umbro Ethiopia national team 2019 away jersey featuring the number of legendary striker Getaneh Kebede.

Ethiopia were one of the founding members of the Africa Cup of Nations in 1957 and later won the tournament in 1962, however have been unable to achieve further success since then. Despite their limited success, Ethiopia’s national team are amongst the best supported in Africa, with their home matches regularly attracted massive crowds, particularly when playing at the 90,000 capacity Bahir Dar Stadium. They made their breakthrough AFCON qualification in 2013 after a 31-year absence and were close to qualifying for the 2014 World Cup after being defeated by Nigeria in the final play-off. Ethiopia have also won the CECAFA Cup on four occasions- in 1987, 2001, 2004 & 2005. The Walia Ibex secured their return to the Africa Cup of Nations by qualifying for the 2021 tournament, where they performed strongly and defeated both Ivory Coast and Madagascar with a young squad comprising almost exclusively of players based in the Ethiopian Premier League.

Getaneh Kebede has been one of Ethiopia’s leading footballers over the past decade, having been a prolific scorer at both club and international level. Kebede began his club career with Dedebit 2010 and was the league’s top scorer in his first full season, finishing the 2010-11 season with 20 goals. He was once again the league’s top scorer in the 2012-13 as he played a key role in Dedebit F.C. winning their maiden league title. Kebede’s exceptional goalscoring record attracted the attention of many foreign clubs and in July 2013 he signed with South African side Bidvest Wits, becoming one of the very few players from the Ethiopian Premier League to transfer to one of Africa’s strongest leagues. He remained at Bidvest Wits for two seasons before joining fellow South African club University of Pretoria F.C for the 2015-16 season and later returned to Dedebit in late 2016. In August 2018, Kebede signed with Ethiopian giants St. George SC, where he remains one of the top strikers in Ethiopian domestic football. At international level, Kebede has scored 30 goals in 55 matches for Ethiopia since his national team debut in 2010.
