Estonia 2012-14 Home (KLAVAN #15) Jersey/Shirt
This is a Nike Estonia national team 2012-14 home jersey featuring the name and number of star defender Ragnar Klavan.
Although Estonia has a long history of international football, with their first national team match being played in 1920, their success has been limited. The Sinisärgid (Blueshirts) have never qualified for a FIFA World Cup of UEFA European Championship, with Estonia's only participation in a major tournament taking place at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris, where they lost their only match in the tournament to the United States 1–0. Estonia was occupied by the Soviet Union from 1940 until their independence in 1991 and did not compete in international football during this time. Since then, they have slowly shown signs of improvement, with their greatest results in recent years being reaching the Euro 2012 qualifying play-offs and subsequently achieving their all-time high FIFA ranking of 47. They also won the 2020 Baltic Cup, their first title in the tournament since 1938.
Ragnar Klavan is one of the greatest players in the history of Estonian football, having had a prolific career at both club and international level. Klavan began his career with Estonia 2nd tier club Elva in 2001 and went onto have stints with top tier clubs Tulevik and Flora. After a loan spell with Norwegian club Vålerenga, Klavan signed with Eredivisie side Heracles Almelo in 2005, where he established himself as a reliable defender capable of competing in Europe’s top leagues throughout his 4 seasons at the club. In 2008, Klavan signed with fellow Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar and continued to impress over 3 ½ seasons before joining Bundesliga club FC Augsburg in 2012. His strong form in Germany attracted the attention of some of Europe’s heavyweights and in 2016 he joined English giants Liverpool for a reported fee of £4.2 million. He remained at the club for 2 seasons before moving to Serie A club Cagliari and in 2021 he signed for Estonian Meistriliiga club Paide Linnameeskond, returning to Estonia after 17 years abroad. At international level, Klavan has won 127 caps for Estonia since his debut in 2003, placing him as the 5th most capped player for the national team.
