Al-Ahly compete in the Egyptian Premier League and are based in Egypt’s capital Cairo. They are the most successful club in the history of both Egyptian and African football, having won the league title 42 times, the Egypt Cup 37 times and also a record 9 CAF Champions League titles. Al-Ahly were founded in 1905 by a group of students initially for political reasons and this soon led to the group gathering for sporting activities with the formal establishment of the sports club in 1907. They have a long and fierce rivalry with Zamalek SC, with Al-Ahly often viewed as the club of the youth and working class in comparison to Zamalek’s association with Cairo’s upper class

Ramadan Sobhi is one of Egypt’s highest-profile footballers and the 25-year-old has already have a prolific career at club and international level. Sobhi began his career at youth level for Al Ahly aged only 8 and eventually made his senior debut for the club in 2014 at just 16 years of age. After three strong seasons for Al Ahly he was signed by English Premier League club Stoke City for £5 million and had an impressive two-season spell before joining EPL side Huddersfield Town following Stoke’s relegation at the end of the 2017-18 season.  Sobhi struggled to make the first-team squad at Huddersfield and was loaned back to childhood club Al Ahly for six months, where he was a key player in their title-winning 2018-19 Egyptian Premier League campaign. At international level, Sobhi has been an important member of the Egypt national team squad since being the second-youngest player to represent Egypt when he debuted in 2015. He was a member of their squad at the 2018 World Cup and has played total of 28 matches for The Pharaohs.
