This is an Umbro Malawi national team 2016-17 away jersey featuring the number of star midfielder Jabulani Linje.

Jabulani Linje is one of a small number of players in Malawi's recent history to play their club football outside of Africa and is currently signed to Tokyo First Division club Shibuya City. He was initially signed to Japanese J3 League club YSCC Yokohama, where he played throughout the 2018 & 2019 seasons. The 27-year-old began his senior career with Malawian clubs Mighty Wanderers and CIVO United before making the move overseas. He made his international debut for 'The Flames' in 2017 and has since been capped 7 times for Malawi.

Malawi have traditionally been relatively consistent at international level, qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations three times (in 1984, 2010 & 2021) as well as finishing runners-up in the COSAFA Cup on two occasions (2002 & 2003). Their only major achievement in recent years was winning the COSAFA Cup Plate in 2015, the secondary tournament for teams that did not make it past the quarter-finals of the competition.
