This is a Diadora Guam national team 2015-16 home jersey featuring the number of star defender A. J. DeLaGarza.

Guam is one of FIFA’s smallest Member Associations in both population and size, however been remarkably competitive against their far larger opponents in the AFC region. A key element to their success in recent years has been the recruitment of mostly US-based players of Guamanian heritage into the national team, with around half of the ‘Matao’ squad often comprising of players competing at club level in the United States. Guam’s greatest achievements to date have been winning the Preliminary Competition of the East Asian Football Championship in 2010, 2013 & 2015, as well as advancing to the third round of Qualifiers for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, recording historic victories over India & Turkmenistan in the process.

A. J. DeLaGarza is arguably one of the highest-profile players to represent Guam at international level when he formally made the switch to represent Guam after previously playing two friendly matches of the United States national team. The veteran defender has spent his entire senior career playing in the MLS, where he played with powerhouse club LA Galaxy from 2009-2016 before moving to Houston Dynamo in 2017. He then had a brief spell with Inter Miami in 2020 before joining fellow MLS-club New England Revolution in January 2021. At international level, DeLaGarza earned a total of 14 caps for Guam from 2013-2019 and played a key role in the development of the national team being announcing his international retirement in April 2020.
